Top Water Activities to Try This Summer

As cities across the U.S continue to reach record breaking highs, more and more vacationers are flocking to San Diego’s beaches to escape the heat. And why wouldn’t they? We’ve got over 31 pristine beaches with world-class waves, and the largest aquatic park in the country, Mission Bay Park.

So here are 5 water activities to try in San Diego that will get you moving while staying cool in the summer sun.

Eco Boat Rentals

For the eco-conscious vacationer

Eco Boat Rentals is a new locally owned business in Point Loma that offers pedal boat rentals.

Each pedal boat can hold up to 3 adults and 1 child and even some pets. They’re just like riding a bike so no previous experience is necessary.

Upon arrival, you’ll be provided lifejackets and go through basic safety measures. Unlike other rentals, you don’t have to worry about overheating in the sun because each boat comes with a shaded overhead.

Enjoy lunch or some snacks while you take in beautiful views of downtown San Diego. In designated areas, you can swim or fish as long as you don’t leave the boat unattended.

The pedal boats cost $45/hour and you must be at least 18 years old to rent

2. Everyday California

For the animal lover

Everyday California offers multiple snorkeling tours in the La Jolla Ecological Reserve which is known to be one of the best snorkeling locations.

Swim with rays, sea lions, Garibaldi, and if you’re lucky you might see dolphins and sea turtles. No previous snorkeling experience is required but you must have basic swimming skills in order keep up with your group.

All tours include mask, snorkel and fin rentals but you can also rent wetsuits at an additional cost.

The Original Snorkel Tour last one hour and is recommended for families with younger children or individuals newer to swimming. Children as young as 5 can participate in the snorkeling tour as long as they can swim.

The Kayak and Snorkel Tour last 2 hours and allows you to kayak to your snorkeling destination. If you really want to see sharks, they also offer a La Jolla Leopard Shark tour.

The La Jolla Ecological Reserve is an uncontrollable environment and every day is different than the last but they offer a money back guarantee if you’re not satisfied with your tour.

Luxury Jet Ski Rentals

For the adrenaline junkies

Each jetski seats up to two people so you could split the cost with a friend. Or buy one hour on the weekdays and each additional hour is only $49.

Luxury Jet Ski Rentals is San Diego’s highest-rated jet ski experience and they don’t charge extra for fuel or a security deposit. No need for a truck to tow, just show up 15 minutes before your booking and be ready to hop on and ride.

Need an even bigger thrill? Flyboarding is available Friday to Monday. It starts with 10 minutes of base instruction to go through all of the safety aspects. Once you have your stability you can try more advanced maneuvers like dolphin dives. Only one person flies at a time which allows for spectators and the other in your party to film and take pictures of your awesome ride!

Picnic & Paddle Boarding

Perfect for family-time

Enjoy the views of San Diego Bay via paddleboards.

Stand-up paddleboarding is a great water activity for all ages and skill levels. You can go at your own pace and relax or race against your family in a competition.

After you’ve worked up an appetite, enjoy brunch or a sunset meal at a picnic on the beach. No need to lug a cooler and chairs up, both set up (and more importantly) clean up is included.

This means more time to spend with loved ones and less time arguing about who did or did not bring the ice for the drinks…..
